TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Adam Adli, a Malaysian pro-reform student activist was arrested with sedition by the Kuala Lumpur police in his house on Saturday, May 18 2013.
Adam, who studies at the Sultan Idris Education University, is now being arrested at Jinjang police station, Kuala Lumpur. Based on the official letter from the Kuala Lumpur police, Adam was charged with sedition under Section 4 (1) of the Sedition Act 1948.
"Anyone who commits or intends to disrupt the stability of the country will be charged,"said Datuk Mohammad Bin Saleh, Chief of Kuala Lumpur police in his press release.
Adam has been suspended for three semester from his university after bringing down a flag bearing Prime Minister Najib’s image in 2011.
According to Adam’s friends, it was likely that his oration during a forum meeting about the result of the 13th election in Malaysia, done by Suara Anak Muda Malaysia (SAMM) on May 13, became the basis of his arrest.
It was planned that a rally would be staged tonight by Malaysian pro-reform activists to demand the government to free Adam.
