TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - In recent era, technology development grows rapidly, causing human's activity to highly associate with electronic device. However, a research showed that modern life can cause dementia or brain deterioration. Experts then accused on the escalating use of PC, mobile phone, electronic devices, and chemical compound as the major cause. According to a research in Bournemouth University, England, the major death cause in 16 nations is due to neural damage.
"This is not a genetic factor, because the period is relatively short," said Professor Colin Pritchard, the head of the research. Moreover, there are some variables affecting people in all nations and that this epidermic is caused by environmental and social change. "Like women are easily influenced because their life has a shorter change period than men," he said.
United States becomes the nation with the highest mortality rate by neural disease from 1979 to 2010. Meanwhile, England is at the fourth position according to World Health Organization (WHO).
Public Health Journal mentioned that technology becomes a covert epidermic, causing death to those below 74, especially in England. The total mortality rate due to dementia in 16 nations increased rapidly, contrasting other diseases.
Pritchhard said that the statistic threaten the society, especially family. "We have to understand the scale of this epidermic that truly affects the environmental and social change," he said. During the last 30 years, there has been a major escalation on electronic products like PC, microwave, television, mobile phone, and chemical pollution.
