TEMPO.CO, Bogor – PT KAI Jabodetabek Commuter, a subsidiary of PT Kereta Api Indonesia (PT KAI), a state-owned railway company, decided to stop providing women-only Electric Railway Train (KRL) for Bogor to Jakarta route. This decision garnered a lot of protests, mainly from women.
Irene Saudale, a 24 year-old regular women train user, stated that most passengers were disappointed. "We [women] feel comfortable using the women commuterline."
Another passenger, Yanti, 32 year-old, also stated the same thing. "Everyday when I go to work, I use the women commuterline. I was once harrased when I used the regular commuterline," she said.
Though the new plan will include four women coaches in every regular commuterline, she said that it will not be enough. "It is not comfortable to be in the regular KRL commuterline, especially during rush hour. It is not comfortable even in women coach."
Head of the Bogor Station Iwan Riyanto, stated that he did not have the authority to give comment on the news. "You can ask the KJC management, we are only selling tickets."
He also claimed that he did not know the exact number of women that use the women train.
"We only sell tickets without noticing whether they use the regular commuterline or the women commuterline," Iwan admitted.
