TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - John O. Brennan, Director of Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), replaced the Chief of Clandestine Operation. The female agent was previously mentioned for her involvement in the CIA's detention and interrogation program, as well as in her role of destroying the interrogation footage.
By replacing her, Brennan shifted the focus of CIA, of which had always been pursuing enemy of the state and paramiliter operation. This measurement was meant to differ his period with Bush’s governance.
The new Chief of Clandestine Operation was a former marine spec-ops, spending his years doing “traditional” espionage and overseas duty. In a press conference, Brennan said that the new chief will remain undercover on running the office, given that Clandestine Operation run a global CIA covert mission.
The change is in alignment with the debate in Obama’s governance on the future of drone, an unmanned vessel, for the 'target assassination operation’, as well as with the moment when the White House plans to hand over the drone project from CIA to the Department of Defense (DoD).
The replacement is an answer to the controversy surrounding the female agent in charge, reported to be assisting the development of the CIA's Detention and Interrogation Program after the 9/11.
