TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Entertainment news site E! Online’s twitter account was hacked on Saturday, May 4th 2013. The hacker tweeted fake news on Justin Bieber, Angelina Jolie, and the Syrian conflict. The Syrian Electronic Army claimed responsibility on the hacking.
Earlier on April, the Syrian Electronic Army also hacked twitter account of news agency Associated Press, where they posted fake news about an attack to the White House. The news brought serious impact to the US economy, as it disturbed the exchange market.
One of the fake tweets said "Exclusive: Justin Bieber to E!online: I'm a gay." Another tweet said "Angelina Jolie admits, in E! latest issue, that Jordan is to blame for the Syrian refugees' atrocious conditions."
The tweets also contained shortlinks, making it seemed legitimate. When clicked, the links directed users to malware downloads or other damaging sites. E! Online followers also retweeted the news thousands of times. It is advisable not to click any links tweeted by @eonline until the problem is solved. Until this news is published, the spokesperson of E! Online has not given any comment.
