TEMPO.CO, Jakarta-Minister of Agriculture Suswono plans to appoint an Agriculture Attache for Indonesian in Saudi Arabia in an effort to gain more market for Indonesian agricultural commodity.
“Especially fruits, vegetables, and palm oil,” he said in a press conference at the Ministry of Agriculture on Monday, April 29.
The Minister explained that Saudi Arabia's demand for horticultural products has increased significantly, especially during the hajj season. In addition, the Minister will also appoint an agricultural attache for Africa.
The appointment is done as a follow up to a cooperation plan made by Saudi enterpreneurs in agriculture sector. Suswono explained that Saudi enterpreneurs incorporated in the Saudi Chamber of Commerce and Industri (Kadin) are willing to invest in Indonesian palm oil refinery industry.
“I met with Mohammed bin Siddiq who represented Saudi’s Kadin. They want to invest, both in Indonesia and Saudi Arabia. This is a good chance for Indonesia,” he said.
He added that the enterpreneurs are interested because they see that the comodity can be an alternative to their need.
