TEMPO.CO, Makassar - Dozens of students from the Makassar Student Alliance of Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono-Boediono Anti-Regime rallied under Makassar's overpass, on Monday, March 26. In their speech, the students asked President Yudhoyono and Vice President Boediono to resign for failing to lead the country and create a sense of security for the people.
"This is purely the wish of the students. Nobody is ‘riding’ our actions," said the rally's coordinator Alimuddin Moteng.
At the same time, residents and students blocked Pandang Kingdom road in Panakkukang district. Makassar Legal Aid activist accompanying the residents, Andi Radianto, said the action would continue as long as the police failed to keep their promise.
The roadblock began on Monday. Residents and students previously clashed with a group of thugs, followed by the arrest of 22 students. Radianto said the head of Makassar Police, Commissioner Sandjaja Vishnu promised to immediately release the arrested students.
By late afternoon yesterday, the blockade ended following the release of the students.
