TEMPO.CO, JakartaMegawati Soekarnoputri revealed her reasons for wanting to return as General Chairperson (Ketum) of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle or PDIP. According to her, there are parties who want to seize her party.

Mega conveyed this statement at the announcement of a number of prospective regional head candidates carried by PDIP for the 2024 regional head elections or Pilkada.

Initially, Mega said that she should have retired because she was 77 years old.

“I am an antique, do you know? That's right, 77 years old. According to the regulations, I have retired,” Mega said in front of her cadres at the PDIP DPP Office, Menteng, Central Jakarta on Wednesday, August 14, 2024.

However, Mega continued, he was again asked to become a party leader by PDIP cadres. The 5th President of Indonesia said that she had spoken about the request to PDIP Secretary General Hasto Kristiyanto.

“I told Hasto, 'I'll think about it first. I also want to be with my family, but now i am being asked to be the Chairperson again',” said the daughter of Indonesia's first President Sukarno.

Mega then said that there were people who wanted to take PDIP. “Already so, now there are people who want to take over the PDI Perjuangan (PDIP) party. That's bad enough, and then the journalists write about it. Oh my! They don't understand the price of honor,” she said. However, Mega did not mention who the party in question was.

Mega then returned to discussing her desire to retire and gather with her family. “I heard that (request to become chairperson) before, 'but I want to retire'. I already have great-grandchildren. My great-grandchildren are so cute, they are my darling. But you know what, I was asked to become chairperson again,” she said again.

This attitude, Mega continued, changed after she found out that there were parties who wanted to take over PDIP.

“As soon as I heard that the PDIP would be taken over, I quickly wanted to become chairperson again. Hahaha. Isn't it cool?” she said.
