TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - It's totally normal to forget some items on vacation. But what if the forgotten items are important? Travelers would be forced to purchase them at their destination, which would certainly affect the travel budget.
According to new research, nine out of ten Americans have forgotten to pack essential items. The survey results show that the most commonly forgotten items are phone chargers (34 percent), toiletries and beauty products (32 percent), sunscreen (27 percent) and even medications (18 percent).
The survey of 2,000 U.S. adults also found that other items commonly left behind include socks (17 percent), water bottles (14 percent) and, believe it or not, wallets (8 percent).
Leaving things behind
The survey results also revealed that 37 percent of respondents admitted to forgetting things while traveling, with an average of three items left behind per trip.
42 percent of respondents believe that forgetting essential items has a negative impact on their trip, forcing them to spend more money (27 percent), buy alternative products (25 percent) and not fully enjoy the trip (10 percent).
However, respondents have learned from their mistakes. A total of 89 percent said they will try to be better prepared for the next holiday season.
Forgetting important habits and practices
The survey by Crystal Geyser Alpine Spring Water and Talker Research also found that healthy habits are often forgotten when travelers are away from home. This includes eating well (51 percent), budgeting (44 percent) and staying hydrated (31 percent).
In fact, less than half (46 percent) admit to drinking more water when traveling, and nearly two-thirds (65 percent) eat more snacks.
Two in five (40 percent) Americans also find it difficult to stay hydrated while traveling. They say this is because their usual routine has changed or they simply forgot to drink because they were more focused on having fun or engaged in other activities.
Clean Water Concerns
"Everyone knows that summer brings travel and fun, but it also brings higher temperatures and a greater chance of dehydration," said Anne-Charlotte de La Porte, Vice President of Marketing for Crystal Geyser.
When it comes to water, many Americans still rely on bottled water when traveling because they are unsure of the quality of the tap or sink water at their destination. In fact, many Americans choose to brush their teeth with bottled water at their vacation destinations.
