TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Head of the Presidential Secretariat Heru Budi Hartono revealed that President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo planned to hold a meeting with regional heads, mayors, regents, and acting governors on August 13, 2024, in the new capital city of Nusantara or IKN, Penajam Panser Utara, East Kalimantan. This gathering will precede the series of Independence Day ceremonies on August 17.
“On the morning of August 13 at 09:00 a.m. WIB (Jakarta time) or at 10:00 a.m. WITA (IKN time), the President will meet with mayors, regents, governors, and acting governors,” said Heru at the Jakarta Convention Center (JCC), Central Jakarta on Wednesday night, August 7, 2024.
Heru stopped short of detailing the exact reason for the meeting, stressing that it was common for such a meeting as the President would be there.
According to him, Jokowi has been in the IKN since August 11, 2024, and is scheduled to return to Jakarta from August 14 to 16, 2024, for an undisclosed agenda.
“He will be at the DPR for a state speech on August 16 and depart for the IKN in the afternoon. At midnight, there will be a reflection assembly, and the Independence Day ceremony will be held on the morning of August 17. Let’s pray that everything will go well,” Heru remarked.
This year's Independence Day ceremony will be held in a hybrid format, with Jokowi leading the main ceremony in IKN along with President-elect Prabowo Subianto and Vice President Ma'ruf Amin, accompanied by President Jokowi's son Gibran Rakabuming Raka, presiding over the ceremony in Jakarta.
Recently, the budget for the 79th Indonesian Independence Day celebration has been under public scrutiny as it has ballooned. Heru acknowledged the increased budget and considered it reasonable due to the dual location event.
