TEMPO.CO, Tangerang - The Soekarno-Hatta Airport Police have been recognized for their role in rescuing three kidnapped American children. The police unit received an award from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) for their cooperation in repatriating the minors to their parents.
Senior Commissioner Roberto GM Pasaribu, Chief of the Soekarno-Hatta Airport Police, detailed how his team successfully repatriated three kidnapped children to their families in the United States in 2023. “We managed to repatriate 3 children to their country,” he said in the airport hall on Tuesday, August 6.
The unit also received an award from the Ministry of Women's Empowerment and Child Protection (PPPA).
Roberto recalled that the police received a report of the kidnapping of minors aged 10, 11, and 13 taken away by someone and landed in Indonesia.
“We worked with the Immigration Office (Class I Airport Immigration Office) and managed to find the children and then sent them back to their country,” he said.
The FBI has expressed its appreciation for the police's cooperation and efforts in combating transnational crime. Robert Laferty, FBI Legal Attaché for Indonesia and Timor Leste, presented awards to the Soekarno-Hatta Airport Police for their role in the child kidnapping case.
Roberto also highlighted the unit's ongoing cooperation with the FBI, citing previous successes such as the Loly Candy case.
