TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko Widodo or Jokowi said that infrastructure is essential to attracting investment. Therefore, during his two terms in office, the head of state focused on developing the country’s infrastructure. Some of the focus are toll roads, national roads, airports, and ports.
"If the infrastructure is no good, who wants to invest in Indonesia? None, because infrastructure is the key to investment,” said Jokowi on Wednesday, July 31, 2024, at the Reflection and Notes on 10 Years of Jokowi's Government in the Field of Construction, Infrastructure, and Investment event at Bank Mega Tower.
Jokowi also said that infrastructure development has boosted Indonesia's competitiveness at the global level. "Our world competitiveness ranking has jumped from 34 to 27,” said the president.
Another benefit to infrastructure development Jokowi went on, is reducing logistics costs from 24 percent to 14 percent. Therefore, Jokowi claimed, prices of goods are reduced and become cheaper.
"This is visible from the inflation rate," said Jokowi.
The former Governor of Jakarta said Indonesia’s inflation rate previously reached 8, 9, and even 11 percent is now down to 3 percent. "And finally, last month, the inflation rate was at 2.58 percent," he concluded.
