Jokowi Cancels Cabinet Meeting in Nusantara; Prabowo on European Working Visit

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Presidential Palace confirmed that President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo will not hold a cabinet meeting in the new capital city Nusantara or IKN this week. The President returned to Jakarta after a two-day working visit in IKN, Penajam Paser Utara, East Kalimantan.
Initially, there was a plan for a plenary cabinet meeting scheduled for July 30 in IKN, as revealed by a Palace official to Tempo. This was later confirmed by Danis Sumadilaga, Head of the National Capital Infrastructure Development Task Force, Communication and Informatics (Kominfo) Minister Budi Arie Setiadi, and Trade Minister Zulkifli Hasan.
Before deciding to cancel the IKN cabinet meeting, Jokowi said he was waiting for several ministers who were on a working visit to France, such as State-Owned Enterprises Minister (SOE) Erick Thohir, Youth and Sports Minister Dito Ariotedjo, and Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto.
They were assigned to attend the opening ceremony of the 2024 Paris Olympics on July 26, 2024, and meet with officials, including the International Olympics Committee (IOC) President Thomas Bach and FIFA President Gianni Infantino.
Minister Dito and Minister Erick Thohir returned to Indonesia on Monday, July 29, 2024, and resumed their regular duties. Meanwhile, Prabowo continued his European working visit. He met with Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic on July 29 and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on July 30.
Previously, Prabowo had visited France to meet with President Emmanuel Macron. The discussions focused on defense cooperation and other potential areas of collaboration.
