BMKG Forecasts Cloudy Skies, Heavy Rain in Some Major Regions in Indonesia

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has issued a weather forecast for Monday, July 29, 2024, predicting cloudy conditions across most of Indonesia but with possible heavy rain in specific regions.
According to BMKG forecaster Syndhy Indah Pratiwi, several cities in Sumatra will experience cloudy skies, including Pekanbaru, Padang, and Tanjung Pinang. Thick clouds are expected in Bengkulu, Pangkal Pinang, and Lampung, while Palembang will be cloudy and Jambi foggy. Northern Sumatra, particularly Banda Aceh, may experience light rain, while Medan rain with thunderstorms.
Java will also be predominantly cloudy, with Jakarta and Bandung experiencing thick clouds. Serang, Semarang, and Surabaya will be cloudy, while Yogyakarta will have a mix of sun and clouds. Light rain is forecast for Denpasar and Mataram, with Kupang experiencing thick clouds.
Kalimantan is expected to have varying conditions. Tanjung Selor and Pontianak may experience thunderstorms, while Palangkaraya and Banjarmasin could see light rain. Samarinda will likely have thick clouds.
In Sulawesi, Manado may have partly sunny skies, while Gorontalo, Makassar, and Kendari will be cloudy. Light rain is possible in Mamuju and Palu.
The eastern region of Indonesia could face more severe weather. Jayawijaya is at risk of heavy rain, while Nabire, Jayapura, and Merauke may experience moderate rain. Ternate could see light rain, Ambon thick clouds, Sorong fog, and Manokwari hazy conditions.
The BMKG has also issued a rain alert for several regions, including Aceh, Central Kalimantan, East Kalimantan, North Kalimantan, West Nusa Tenggara, East Nusa Tenggara, Papua, South Sulawesi, Central Sulawesi, Southeast Sulawesi, and North Sumatra.
