11 July 2024 13:02 WIB

TEMPO.CO, JakartaThe Indonesian Quarantine Authority (IQA) and the Ministry for Primary Industries of New Zealand (MPI) have formalized a significant partnership by signing a Memorandum of Arrangement (MoA) aimed at enhancing cooperation on sanitary and phytosanitary (SPS) measures and certification matters. The signing ceremony took place in Auckland on Tuesday, July 9, 2024, underscoring the commitment of both nations to strengthen bilateral trade relations through streamlined agricultural trade protocols.

The signing of the Memorandum was accompanied by the signing of several key documents, including e-Certification Arrangements for a smoother trade process, Implementing Arrangements for Phytosanitary Requirements for Exports of Fresh Onion Bulbs from New Zealand to Indonesia, and the Export Plan for Fresh Fruits and Vegetables from Indonesia to New Zealand.

“Both parties have agreed to opening up new opportunities for Indonesian exporters of fresh fruits and vegetables in the New Zealand market. In particular, fresh pineapples,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs wrote on its official website on Thursday.

The signing ceremony was attended by Sahat Manaor Panggabean, Head of the Indonesian Quarantine Authority, and Todd McClay, Minister for Primary Industries of New Zealand.

"This MoA marks a significant milestone in our bilateral relations with Indonesia," stated Todd McClay.

In response, Sahat Manaor Panggabean stated that "by harmonizing our sanitary and phytosanitary measures and implementing e-certification, we are not only facilitating trade but also ensuring the safety and quality of agricultural products exchanged between our nations.”

The ceremony was also graced by Fientje Maritje Suebu, Indonesian Ambassador to New Zealand, who appreciated the consultation and collaboration between the two institutions.
