TEMPO.CO, JakartaNational holidays in ASEAN member countries vary, reflecting each country’s cultural identities and government policies. Citing from asean.org, the following is the complete list of the number of national holidays in ASEAN countries in 2024.

1. Indonesia - 27 Days

Indonesia occupies the top position with the highest number of national holidays in ASEAN with 27 days. This includes several religious and national celebrations such as Eid al-Fitr, Christmas, and Independence Day. Cultural and religious diversity in Indonesia is a major factor in Indonesia’s national holidays. 

2. Cambodia - 21 Days

Cambodia is in second place with 21 national holidays. The country has several important celebrations such as Khmer New Year, Pchum Ben, and Independence Day. Khmer traditions and culture greatly influence the national holiday calendar in Cambodia.

3. Myanmar - 19 Days

Myanmar records 19 national holidays. Some important days include Thingyan (Water Festival), Independence Day, and other Buddhist celebrations. The majority of Myanmar's population is Buddhist, which greatly influences its national holidays. 

4. Thailand and Philippines - 18 Days

Thailand and the Philippines each have 18 national holidays. In Thailand, celebrations such as Songkran (Thai New Year) and the King's Birthday are some of the most important. Meanwhile,  Christmas, Easter, and Heroes' Day are widely celebrated in the Philippines.

5. Malaysia and Vietnam - 16 Days

Malaysia and Vietnam both record 16 national holidays. In Malaysia, national holidays reflect ethnic diversity with Eid al-Fitri, Chinese New Year, and Deepavali celebrations. In Vietnam, people look forward to days like Tet Nguyen Dan (Vietnamese New Year) and National Day.

6. Brunei Darussalam - 15 Days

Brunei Darussalam has 15 national holidays. Major celebrations include Eid al-Fitr, National Day, and the Prophet's Birthday. As a Muslim-majority country, many of Brunei's holidays are related to the Islamic calendar.

7. Singapore - 12 Days

Singapore records 12 national holidays. The country celebrates several important days such as National Day, Chinese New Year, and Deepavali. Singapore's ethnic diversity is reflected in its national holiday calendar.

8. Laos - 9 Days

Laos records the least national holidays among ASEAN countries with just 9 days. Some important celebrations in Laos include Pi Mai (Lao New Year) and Lao National Day.
