1. Supreme Court Revises Regional Election Rules Amid Talk Jokowi's Son May Seek Run
Indonesia's Supreme Court (MA) has approved regulatory changes on the age of candidates in regional elections, the court said on Thursday, amid speculation President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo's 29-year-old son, Kaesang Pangarep, is seeking to run in the upcoming Jakarta elections.
A petition was filed with the court last month, calling for the rules to be changed so that candidates could be 30 years old when they are inaugurated, rather than on the date when the election commission first confirms their bid.
2. Jokowi to Attend Pancasila Day Commemoration in Riau
This year's Pancasila Day Commemoration will be held in Dumai, Riau on Saturday, June 1, 2024, at the Garuda Pertamina Hulu Rokan Block complex. The head of the Pancasila Ideology Development Agency (BPIP), Yudian Wahyudi, explained that the celebration of Pancasila Day is no longer centered in Jakarta, but has been rotating with other regions since 2022.
“So, it was Ende City in 2022, where Bung Karno (Sukarno, Indonesia’s first president) reflected on the five points of Pancasila,” said Yudian on Thursday, May 30 in Riau. "The second one was held in Jakarta, and now in Riau.”
3. Norwegian DJ Alan Walker Surprises Indonesian School with a Visit, Sings with Teachers and Students
Norwegian DJ and music producer, Alan Walker, made a surprise visit to the teachers and students of Al-Azhar Medan Private High School in Indonesia on Tuesday, May 28, 2024. Alan Walker flew directly from New York to Medan to meet them in person.
It started with Alan Walker finding a video on TikTok showing a teacher from Indonesia, Tri Adinata, teaching his students the art of music by playing Alan Walker's song entitled "Who I Am" which was sung with Putri Ariani and Peder Elias. Alan Walker followed this up by recording his own TikTok video reacting to a special moment with students in Medan.
