TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The General Election Organizers' Honorary Council (DKPP) held a trial today, May 22, over alleged violations of the code of ethics by the chairman of the General Election Commission (KPU), Hasyim Asy'ari. Hasyim is accused of committing immoral acts against a female member of the Overseas Election Committee (PPLN).
The trial was held behind closed doors and was attended only by interested parties, including the complainant, the defendant and witnesses.
Members of the PPLN, as complainants, were also present at the hearing. Anis Hidayah from Komnas HAM was also present as an expert witness in the case number 90-PKE-DKPP/V/2024.
The agenda of today's hearing is to listen to the testimonies of all parties, including the plaintiffs, defendants, witnesses and other related parties. David stated that the DKPP summoned the parties five days prior to the preliminary hearing session in accordance with Article 22 paragraph (1) of DKPP Regulation No. 3 of 2017, as last amended by DKPP Regulation No. 1/2022.
This case was filed by a woman with the initials CAT, represented by the Legal Aid Consultation Institute, Faculty of Law, University of Indonesia (LKBH FHUI) and LBH APIK. In her complaint, CAT accused Hasyim Asy'ari of abusing his position and giving special treatment to CAT, who was working as a member of the PPLN in The Hague, Netherlands. Hasyim is also suspected of abusing his power to approach and establish a relationship with CAT.
The victim's lawyer, Aristo Pangaribuan, said Hasyim violated the code of ethics by approaching, seducing and even committing immoral acts against his client.
"This act was committed against our client, a member of the PPLN who has an employment relationship with the KPU chairman, although he is legally married," Aristo said at the DKPP building on Thursday, April 18.
Aristo added that the immoral acts allegedly took place from September 2023 to March 2024, with meetings between the two taking place both when Hasyim was on an official visit to Europe and when the victim was visiting Indonesia. He added that Hasyim tried to seduce and approach the victim "very actively," even when the two were not in the same place at the same time.
