Food Prices Predicted to Increase over the Weekend

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Most food commodity prices have increased as of Saturday, December 9, 2023. The food prices that increased were premium rice, medium rice, soybean seeds, shallots, garlic, chili, cayenne pepper, beef, eggs, sugar, cooking oil, wheat flour, and mackerel.
Meanwhile, only prices of purebred chicken meat, farmer corn, and milkfish have decreased.
Based on the food price panel of the National Food Agency (Bapanas), the average price of medium-quality rice had increased by 1.06 percent to Rp13,300 per kilogram compared to the previous week's price. Premium rice price also increase by 1.07 percent to Rp15,150 per kilogram.
The increase also occurred in prices of shallots and garlic. Shallots price increase by 2.27 percent to Rp31,080 per kilogram, while price of garlic increase by 1.44 percent to Rp36,000. The price of chili increase by 2.21 percent to Rp73,050 per kilogram and red cayenne pepper increase by 1.56 percent to Rp88,700 per kilogram.
Similarly, the price of beef increase by 0.89 percent to Rp135,770 per kilogram, and the prices of chicken eggs increase by 1.35 percent to Rp28,480 per kilogram.
In addition, bulk cooking oil and wheat flour both also experienced price increases. Bulk cooking oil price increase by 0.14 percent to Rp14,710 per kilogram, and packaged (bulk) wheat flour price incresae by 0.55 percent to Rp10,900 per kilogram.
Meanwhile, the price of sugar is still above the government's price ceiling of Rp17,450 per kilogram, or 1.34 percent higher compared to the previous week.
Meanwhile, the price of broiler chicken meat fell 0.03 percent to Rp34,390 per kilogram, while farmer corn price fell by 1.10 percent to Rp7,220 per kilogram and milkfish price fell by 0.29 percent to Rp34,180 per kilogram.
Previously, Minister of Trade Zulkifli Hasan visited Johar Baru Market, Central Jakarta on Monday, December 4, 2023. He claimed that the average price of staple foods in the market was stable except for chili peppers.
"Everything is still stable, rice price is also stable although remaining high. Only our chili is still expensive," Zulhas said on Monday, December 30, 2023.
He said that the price of rice has started to fall but is still high at Rp 13,000 per kilogram. The highest retail price (HET) for rice is Rp10,900 per kilogram. Zulhas said this condition was due to the fact that it is not the harvest season.
Meanwhile, the price of eggs, Zulkifli said, is still in the range of Rp28,000 per kilogram. Then the price of chicken meat is Rp 35,000 per kilogram. According to him, the prices of these two commodities are in accordance with the reference prices set by the government.
