TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Andalas Feri Amsari, an academician from the Andalas University stated that the constitutional requirement to impeach President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo has been fulfilled. Feri mentioned that the president has evidently involved in the effort to win Prabowo Subianto and Gibran Rakabuming Raka for the 2024 Election.
"All context and elements of impeachment has been fulfilled," Feri said to Tempo on Saturday, November 18, 2023.
Feri asserted that the involvement of police personnel, the recent scandal of former Constitutional Court Justice who is also President Jokowi's brother-in-law, the reshuffle, unscheduled campaign, and the summoning of regional leaders, served as enough evidence for the impeachment.
In addition, Jokowi's inconsistency between his statement that his son will not involved in politics, and the fact that his son ended up being the Mayor of Solo and now becoming the running mate of presidential candidate Prabowo Subianto, can also be considered as enough proof of partiality.
According to Feri, impeachment can be considered as political action. Feri quoted several articles of Law No. 17 of 2015 that states that rights inquiry (Hak Angket) can be exercised if it can gain the support of at least 25 members of the House of Representatives, and supported at least 1 fraction of the House of Representatives.
Similarly, State Administrative Law expert Bivitri Susanti, stated that impeachment against President Jokowi is a good move to be taken.
"Possibilities for impeachment should be explored," said Bivitri to Tempo on November 2, 2023. "Under strict supervision, of course," she added.
However, Bivitri mentioned that impeachment must be carried out in accordance with prevailing laws and regulations and can only be required if certain evidence and requirements have been met and publicly revealed.
Bivitri said that one of the evidence and consideration for impeachment that can be considered by the House of Representatives is the President's statement on how he is using state institutions such as the State Intelligence Agency to monitor political issues.
