Indonesia, Japan Ink Agreement for Phase 3 MRT Development

14 November 2023 12:08 WIB

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian government and  Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) inked Minutes of Discussion (MoD of Appraisal Mission) for the Phase 3 MRT development for the East-West Corridor.

"We expressed gratitude and appreciation for the Indonesian government, provincial government of Jakarta, and JICA for their support to advance the urban modern public transportation in Jakarta and its surrounding regions," said President Director of PT MRT Jakarta Tuhiyat in a written statement on Monday.

The agreement was signed on Saturday, November 11. Representing Indonesia, the agreement was signed by Railways DG Risal Wasal, Bilateral Funding Director of Bappenas Kurniawan Ariadi, Jakarta Regional Secretary Joko Agus Setiono, and Tuhiyat.

Meanwhile, on the Japanese side, the agreement was inked by Chief of Representative Indonesia Office JICA Yasui Takehiro.

According to Tuhiyat, the development of Phase 3 MRT will push for a shift in urban planning. "Hopefully even more people will prioritize public transportation to commute daily," Tuhiyat said.

The East-West Corridor will span across 84.1 kilometers from Balaraja, Tangerang to Cikarang, Bekasi. The underground project will be phased out into four stages, namely Phase 1 Stage 1 spanning across 30.1 kilometers for Tomang-Medan Satria, and Phase 1 Stage 2 for Kembangan-Tomang spanning across 9.2 kilometers.

For Phase 2, the development consists of the East, spanning 20.5 kilometers for Medan Satria-Cikarang, and the West, spanning 29.9 kilometers for Kembangan-Balaraja.

The development for Phase 1 Stage 1 MRT East-West Corridor will have 21 stations, with 8 underground stations and 13 elevated stations.
