Indonesian President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo has spoken out about the fate of the country’s new capital city, IKN after he ends his mandate as head of state in 2024. He emphasized that the project has been enshrined in a law supported by 93 percent of the party factions in the House of Representatives (DPR), dismissing public concerns that it would be halted.
The revision of Law No. 3/2022 concerning the National Capital was just enacted on Oct. 31, 2023, becoming Law No. 21/2023. Article 24 (3) states that the IKN development and relocation process is classified as a national priority program for a minimum period of 10 years.
2. Batik Air Offers Non-Stop Flights from Jakarta to Kuala Lumpur, Penang
The member of Lion Group, Batik Air, is offering non-stop flights that connect Indonesia through the Soekarno-Hatta International Airport to Kuala Lumpur and Penang.
"The existing operations, namely Jakarta-Kuala Lumpur, offer 6 flights a day and Jakarta-Penang is offering 2 flights a day," said Corporate Communications Strategic of Batik Air, Danang Mandala Prihantoro in a written statement on Thursday, November 2.
Batik Air operates the routes on Boeing 737-800NG, with 12 business class seat-capacity and 150 economy class seat-capacity.
3. Depok Urged to Strengthen Mitigation Efforts Against Potential Monkeypox Outbreak
Political and public policy observer Yusfitriadi stated that Depok City must be extra vigilant concerning the monkeypox or mpox outbreak in the city. As Jakarta's buffer city, Depok has a higher risk of an outbreak.
According to Yusfitriadi, Depok should learn from its own experience during the COVID-19 pandemic. "[The outbreak] was caused by the weak mitigation system to anticipate the [COVID-19] virus outbreak," he said on Thursday, Nov. 2.
As of now, monkeypox is detected in three regions, namely Jakarta, Banten, and West Java. However, the number of people in Jakarta who are indicated to have been infected is constantly rising.
