TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Tempo English compiled the top 3 news on the platform today, October 3, 2023. Those include Indonesia ranking low on internet speed, free trial rides on 'Whoosh' high-speed train were extended until mid-October, and the Transportation Minister explaining feeder transport for Whoosh.
The following is the list of the three popular news on Tempo English today:
1. Indonesia Ranks Low on Internet Speed, Kominfo Claims Unfair
Ministry of Communication and Informatics (Kominfo) mentioned that the calculation for the Southeast Asia-wide internet speed was unfair. Denny Setiawan, the Director of Resource Management of the SDPPI, stated that the comparable factor between countries was not equal.
"We will file a complaint to the parties responsible for the [internet] speed test. If we're being compared to Cambodia, I'll challenge India and China too," he said in Jakarta on Monday, October 2, 2023.
According to Denny, the calculation was unfair since Indonesia's geographical condition and the population are bigger than other Southeast Asian countries. The calculation by Ookla previously found Indonesia third at the bottom, only surpassing Cambodia and Myanmar.
2. Free Trial Rides on 'Whoosh' High-speed Train Extended until Mid-October
The newly-launched high-speed railway named Whoosh will be free until mid-October, Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan confirmed. He said this was in consideration of the public's high enthusiasm for the country’s first bullet train, which connects Jakarta and Bandung.
“Thanks to the public's high enthusiasm for the free trial rides on the Jakarta-Bandung fast train, we agreed [to extend it] until the middle of October,” Luhut said when presenting the report before President Joko Widodo or Jokowi during the launch at Halim Station, East Jakarta on Monday, October 2, 2023.
3. Transportation Minister Explains Feeder Transport for Whoosh
Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi explained that the ministry has issued the operational license for the Jakarta-Bandung High-speed Train, recently named Whoosh. The ministry also provided support in the form of feeder transport to and from Whoosh stations.
"The feeder transport was prepared in cooperation with relevant stakeholders. This will ease the access of [Whoosh] from and toward economic and activity hubs," he said in a written statement quoted on Tuesday, October 3, 2023.
A number of feeder transports will start at Halim Station, where several public transportation were prepared to access the station, one of which is Transjakarta with the route of Cawang-Jl. Mayjen Sutoyo-Jl. DI Panjaitan-Halim Station. Transjakarta will operate from 06:00 a.m. to 04:00 p.m.
