TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) continued its investigation into the alleged corruption case at the Ministry of Agriculture involving Minister Syahrul Yasin Limpo. the KPK searched Syahrul’s official residence in Kebayoran Baru, Central Jakarta, at around 5 p.m. on Thursday afternoon, September 28.
Ali Fikri, a spokesperson for the anti-graft agency, confirmed the search activity. “It's true, the KPK team has an agenda there,” Ali said on Thursday.
Other than the inside of the house, two men and a woman wearing KPK vests were seen checking two cars parked in the garage of the NasDem politician’s house at around 7 p.m.
Later that night, two men came to the minister’s house claiming to have been ordered by a NasDem cadre to supervise the search. However, they refused to reveal the name of the party’s cadre.
One of the men with Sugandi's name tag on his shirt said that he and his colleague were expelled by the KPK officers because they were not yet officially considered Syahrul's legal representatives.
The search ended in the early hours of Friday. The KPK officers were seen taking out a box and a tote bag after the search.
Minister Syahrul Yasin Limpo is in Spain
Head of Public Relations at the Agriculture Ministry, Arief Cahyono, claimed he did not know about the search. “I just heard about it. I haven't received any information yet,” he told Tempo on Thursday.
Arief said that the Agriculture Minister was still in Spain for a working visit including attending a Food and Agriculture Organization event in Rome, Italy.
On June 14, 2023, the KPK announced an investigation into alleged corruption at the Agriculture Ministry. It had also summoned and probed Minister Syahrul Yasin Limpo on June 19, 2023, after he had been absent twice due to state business. At the time, the former governor of South Sulawesi said he was willing to cooperate with the KPK.
