Indonesian Govt to Integrate Jabodebek Public Transportations

27 September 2023 16:54 WIB

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Coordinating Minister for Maritime and Investment Affairs Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan mentioned that the public transportation system connecting Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, and Bekasi (Jabodebek) will be integrated in the upcoming month.

"The president (Joko "Jokowi" Widodo) asked us to integrate the transportation system in Jabodebek into a single organization so there is no fragmentation between SOEs, regional government, and the central government," he said after a meeting today in Jakarta.

Luhut stated that President Jokowi mandated the integration to be conducted for the next month to form the structure for a single organization and integrated ticketing fare system.

"How people could purchase transportation passes or monthly tickets for one mode of transportation. For example, using the LRT from Bogor and continuing the trip with Transjakarta [on a single trip]," he said.

The Jakarta-Bandung High-speed Train, recently re-named as Whoosh, will be integrated with LRT and Transjakarta. "The point is, we will reduce the usage of private vehicles and push for the improvement of public transportation to be comfortable with affordable prices," he added.

According to Luhut, fuel-based vehicles trigger the rise of air pollution, causing trillions of damage to the country. One of the solutions to tackle the problem is by providing electric-based public vehicles. "For example, an electric bus, which requires higher costs than a diesel bus, Thus, we will subsidize the cost for 15 years until the cost lowers," he stated.

Luhut targets the new policy to be finalized next month to prepare the organization and the subsidy policy.
