TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The head of the Jakarta Transportation Office Syafrin Liputo stated that his office will conduct free emissions tests in five locations. "We have received five units of testing kits from the Transportation Ministry to expand the free emissions tests," he said on Monday, September 18, 2023.
For now, the locations for the free emissions tests have not been announced. However, Syafrin hoped the residents of Jakarta would conduct an emissions test in said locations later.
Free emissions tests, Syafrin said, have been implemented previously in several bus stations, such as Kampung Rambutan, Pulo Gadung, and Pulo Gebang.
Meanwhile, the provincial government of Jakarta and the police will resume the emissions test ticketing after the police halted the ticket a while ago. The results of emissions tests are stored in a database to prevent charging vehicles that have passed the test.
"After the implementation of the emissions tests ticket on September 1, there is an influx of people participating in emissions tests, but then the regional police halted the emissions test ticket. Therefore, we encourage the public to conduct vehicle maintenance independently," he said. "Hopefully, the public acknowledge that we are trying to establish a sustainable city where we can reduce air pollution."
Syafrin also explained about the main pollutants in Jakarta. "Thus, the provincial government is pushing for the implementation of massive-scale emissions tests," he concluded.
