Transportation Ministry Inaugurates Motaain Dry Port in NTT

18 September 2023 10:48 WIB

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Land Transportation DG of the Transportation Ministry Hendro Sugiatno officiated the Motaain Dry Port in Belu Regency, NTT, located adjacent to the border of Timor Leste. The inauguration corresponded with the commemoration of National Transportation Day.

"[Motaain Dry Port] has the purpose to expedite goods from Indonesia to Timor Leste and vice versa," he said in a written statement quoted on Monday, September 18, 2023.

According to Hendro, border regions are at the front line of integrated areas. "The most important thing from infrastructure development is to make it beneficial to the public. [In Motaain port] will be prepared a special area for Motaain residents to develop MSMEs," he said.

In addition, Hendro also encouraged the synergy between the central government and its regional counterpart to improve transportation services. In the operation of Motaain Dry Port, the government offers several services such as Customs and Excise, Immigration, Aminal and Plant Quarantine Agency, Regional government offices, and the National Agency for Border Management.

"Hopefully this dry port will improve NTT's economy and even Indonesia to boost its competitiveness," he added.

Meanwhile, the Acting Governor of NTT Ayodhia G.L. Kalake mentioned that the development of Motaain Dry Por is intended to facilitate transportation in border regions. He hoped that the port could boost the export and import between Indonesia and Timor Leste. "And to improve the surrounding resident's economy," he said.
