Pertamina Responds to Plumpang Depot Fire Victims' Demand for Compensation

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - State-owned oil and gas giant Pertamina responded to the demand for compensation voiced by victims of the oil depot fire in Plumpang, North Jakarta, that occurred on March 3, 2023.
“For material compensation, we are still waiting for the rules and mechanism, on how to verify the data and others,” said the Corporate Communication VP, Fadjar Djoko Santoso, in a written statement on Wednesday, June 7, 2023.
Fadjar added that Pertamina is a state-owned firm, so everything must be accounted for.
Head of the Advocacy Team for the Defenders of Kampung Tanah Merah Residents, Faizal Hafied, asked the central government to pay special attention to addressing issues after the deadly fire incident. He also urged President Joko Jokowi Widodo to resolve the case.
“With all due respect, we request special attention from our beloved Bapak President Jokowi, regarding the responsibilities that must be carried out by PT Pertamina Patra Niaga Plumpang and PT Pertamina,” Faizal said in a press conference at Jalan Koramil, North Jakarta on Wednesday, June 7, 2023.
According to him, local residents have not yet received compensation for the impact of the fire that killed dozens of people including children, and displaced hundreds of people.
Chairman of Community Unit (RW) 09 of Kampung Tanah Merah, Abdus Syakur, said no agreement has been reached regarding the issue of the compensation for the Pertamina Plumpang depot fire. Thus, the residents entrusted the resolution to the established advocacy team.
