TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo offered many incentives to potential investors in the new capital city project while attending Ecosperity Week 2023 in Singapore. One of the incentives is tax relief.
“[Related to] incentives, it's easy, easy lah. I was also a businessman. Don't worry, we have prepared fiscal incentives, such as tax holidays, non-collected VAT, super deduction taxes, and import duties. We have done everything, especially regarding green energy and industry. We will facilitate it as best as we can,” the President said as broadcast on Presidential Secretariat’s YouTube channel on Thursday, June 7, 2023.
He mentioned that the Edelman Trust Barometer survey stated that public trust in doing business in Indonesia is at a high level or just below China. In the midst of global uncertainty, he informed that Indonesia's economy grew consistently above 5 percent. It was 5.3 percent last year and 5.03 percent in the first quarter of 2023.
For inflation, he said the government had managed to maintain it at 4 percent on an annual basis or year on year (yoy) as of May 2023. The trade balance has also been a surplus for 30 consecutive months. In 2022, the trade balance was also surplus at US$54.5 billion.
“What else are you waiting for?” said Jokowi. “So I suggest you, don’t wait too long. Don’t just sit back and watch. This is a golden opportunity. This is very captivity in Indonesia that all of you can be a part of."
Vow Political Stability
On that occasion, the President also promised sociopolitical stability in Indonesia ahead of the 2024 Presidential Election. Whoever becomes the President in 2024, the development of the new capital project in East Kalimantan will continue.
The next president will make Indonesia a powerhouse and an Asian giant. Thus, he asked investors to remain calm and not worry about the investment climate in the archipelago. “So everything will be fine. No need to worry. Your investment in Indonesia will continue to be safe,” Jokowi said.
