TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President of the Labor Party and Confederation of Indonesian Trade Unions (KSPI) Said Iqbal, said that the Constitutional Court has decided to summon President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo and House of Representatives (DPR) Speaker Puan Maharani in the next trial of Job Creation Law or Law No. 6 of 2023.
“So the legal standing is valid, [we are] as a plaintiff in the Job Creation Law. So the Labor Party will take over the fight related to the omnibus law on job creation,” Iqbal said during a demonstration at the Arjuna Wijaya Horse Statue area, Central Jakarta, on Monday, June 5, 2023.
During the trial, he explained, the judge decided the agenda for the next trial and will summon the President and the DPR Speaker. In relation to this, the Labor Party asked both of them to comply with the court’s ruling.
“Once in a while, [Jokowi and Puan Maharani] need to meet the call to the people's assembly because the Labor Party represents the trade unions,” Iqbal added.
Iqbal asserted that the Job Creation Law started to cause a widespread impact, one of which is rampant outsourcing and massive layoffs, including companies holding footwear brands Adidas, Nike, and technology companies.
“We have conveyed to the judge that the omnibus law has had a broad impact even though it is conditionally unconstitutional, let alone if it is declared constitutionally valid,” Iqbal emphasized.
He also asserted that if justice is not acquired at the Constitutional Court, workers will take to the streets demanding the law to be repealed, and there will even be a national strike and production stop.
“The Constitutional Court is the last resort to seek justice through the revocation of the Job Creation Law,” Iqbal concluded.
