Moderate Earthquake Hits Pangandaran Coast

TEMPO.CO, Bandung - The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) on June 4 announced that a magnitude 4.6 earthquake had hit the region of Pangandaran in the West Java province and territories in its vicinity. The quake precisely hit the area at 20:48 Indonesia Western Time (WIB).
The effects of it were measured as a III MMI scale intensity, especially in closeby areas such as Cisompet, Cikalong, and Pameungpeuk.
BMKG stated that the quake’s epicenter came from 105 kilometers Southwest of Pangandaran and specifically is located at 8.43 degrees south latitude and 107.89 degrees east longitude. The agency also said its epicenter came from 10 kilometers below.
“This earthquake is classified as a shallow earthquake caused by the Eurasian intraplate earthquake,” said the head of the Tangerang BBMKG Hartanto in a written statement.
