TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Sandiaga Uno has again responded to the poor behavior of foreign tourists in Bali which has continuously become the public spotlight. Recently, a female German national danced naked at a traditional art event on the island. She was reportedly suffering from depression.
“We should be able to prevent such incidents by implementing good and strict SOPs for the comfort and safety of tourist attractions in order to enforce regulations, maintain norms, and respect the customs of the local community for the good image of Bali and Indonesia in general,” Sandiaga said in a statement, Monday, May 29, 2023.
He thus demanded all parties in the province to disseminate dos and don'ts for tourists to maintain a good image of tourism internationally. He said the ministry had also conducted dissemination to airlines and immigration.
The ministry had also launched the AI TIWI chat board as a room for people to report or complain about tourists committing a violation.
“We invite all related parties to participate in disseminating information about tourism regulations,” Sandiaga Uno underlined.
From January to May, a total of 129 foreign nationals have been deported by the Balinese government for committing a number of violations of Balinese tourism laws and customs, such as wearing inappropriate clothing in sacred or public places, impolite behavior in sacred places, working or doing business without official documents, and violating traffic rules.
