Airbus Introduces Latest A220-300 in Jakarta, Claims to be More Efficient

26 May 2023 15:55 WIB

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Aeronautics giant Airbus is currently exhibiting the A220-300 commercial aircraft in Jakarta, which is part of a demonstration tour of its latest product to the Southeast Asian market. The aircraft which is claimed to be the most modern compared to other aircraft in the same category landed at Soekarno-Hatta Airport after departing from Malaysia.

The A220 performed two special demonstration flights for airline and media representatives on Thursday, May 25.

Highlights of the aircraft’s spec is its capability to carry between 100 and 160 passengers in one flight with a range of up to 3,450 nautical miles (6,400 km) which allows airliners to serve all domestic routes in Indonesia point-to-point non-stop.

Airbus also claims that the aircraft is more fuel efficient and produces fewer carbon emissions (25 percent less than the previous generation) through its latest generation Pratt & Whitney PW1500G turbofan.

The Asia-Pacific region has seen the A220-300 operated by Korean Air, which has a fleet of 10, and Australia’s Qantas which will operate 20 of them in total after delivery is completed. Airbus claims to have received 785 orders for the new A220 with more than 260 of them already delivered or in the process of delivery to customers across the globe.

Airliners that operate Airbus in Indonesia include Batik Air, Citilink, Indonesia AirAsia, Pelita Air, Super Air Jet, TransNusa, Lion Air, and Garuda Indonesia.
