TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo welcomed the visit from delegates of the United States-ASEAN Business Council (US-ABC) at the Bogor Presidential Palace in West Java on Thursday to, reportedly, discuss a multitude of cooperation in the field of investment and trade relations between the United States and Indonesia.
In a written statement on Friday, May 26, by Finance Minister Sri Mulyani, the meeting “discussed how Indonesia can improve the ecosystem of the electric vehicle or electric car industry, which indeed Indonesia has enormous mineral resources."
The meeting also talked about the possibilities of the US-ABC facilitating Indonesia to enter the US electric vehicle market, which could increase Indonesia’s role to attract investments.
President Jokowi also assured the delegates that the government will continue to dwell in economic transformation, the development of sustainable energy, and the construction of the New Capital City of Nusantara (IKN).
"The President asserted that Indonesia will continue to carry out the economic transformation, be it in the downstream industries and strengthening the electric vehicle industry ecosystem, as well as from a sustainable energy perspective including energy transition, and also to continue to support the development of IKN," said Sri Mulyani.
Jokowi and a number of companies in the energy industry discussed the issue of climate change and the importance of carbon capture technology, the minister said in her statement. The Indonesian government will also comply with commitments in dealing with climate change.
Lastly, President Jokowi emphasized that Indonesia, as a country at the center of geopolitical upheaval, needs to carry out an open global collaboration and cooperation.
