TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia's Sharia bank, PT Bank Syariah Indonesia (BSI), remains tight-lipped about the detailed cause of the disruption to its IT system on May 8, 2023. BSI Corporate Secretary Gunawan A. Hartoyo stated that digital forensic audits and investigations are still ongoing.
“To clarify whether there is indeed [a ransomware attack] and others, we have to go through a series of digital forensic audits which are now still ongoing,” Gunawan said at the National Consumer Protection Agency (BPKN) HQ, Central Jakarta, Thursday, May 25, 2023.
According to him, finding out what actually happened to the largest Islamic bank in Indonesia takes time and cannot be revealed within a week. BSI is still waiting for the results.
“Why is that important? Because we can't talk about things we don't know,” Gunawan said.
However, he emphasized that the company's priority is the safety and convenience of the community. The BSI management has conveyed that customer funds are safe. “That's what we pay most attention to,” he claimed.
Presently, Gunawan assured that transaction services at BSI have returned to normal both at ATMs, branch offices, and digital service. BSI also provides several programs such as cashback for QRIS use and a transfer fee of Rp5 via BI fast. “There will be more programs to improve consumers’ comfort and safety,” said Gunawan.
Previously, BSI Independent Commissioner Komaruddin Hidayat confirmed that there was sabotage against Indonesia’s largest Islamic bank. Yet he ensured that the management has dispatched a team of experts to deal with the ransomware attack.
