TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Gerindra Party chief patron Prabowo Subianto was scheduled to visit President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo at the Bogor Palace today, May 25, 2023. The party’s executive board chairman Sufmi Dasco Ahmad stated that it was a common meeting since Prabowo who serves as a Defense Minister is often summoned by the state head.
“This afternoon's meeting is a common one. It’s the meeting between the President and the President's aide. Of course, Pak Prabowo is often summoned and must report programs being implemented,” Dasco said at the Parliament Building, Thursday, May 25.
Dasco claimed he did not know if the meeting was related to the Minister’s electability which is recently increasing. Moreover, it occurred after Jokowi voiced support for Prabowo.
According to him, the meeting was purely a business matter. “What is certain is that today’s meeting is about the work between the President and the Minister,” said Dasco who is also the House Deputy Speaker.
Based on the latest Kompas Research and Development survey, the electability of Prabowo surpassed the electability of Central Java Governor Ganjar Pranowo who topped the list of potential candidates for the 2024 presidential election.
The poll revealed Prabowo’s electability rating at 24.5 percent, followed by Ganjar at 22.8 percent, and Anies Baswedan who is getting far behind them with only 13.6 percent
Prabowo's electability jumped by 6.4 percent compared to the January 2023 survey which was 18.1 percent. Meanwhile, Ganjar’s electability declined by 2.5 percent from 25.3 percent in January 2023. Anies's electability barely changed from 13.1 percent or only up by 0.5 percent compared with the January survey.
This is the first time Prabowo took over the top list. In the October 2022 survey, his electability was below Ganjar Prabowo.
