TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The management of Surabaya Zoo (KBS) opened its new night zoo attraction on a trial basis. Tourists can enter a world of nocturnal creatures and witness their activities in the dark.
The Surabaya Zoo Provincial Enterprise (PDTS) Director Khoirul Anwar said the opening trial is still ongoing because several events are still being prepared for the launch in early June.
Khoirul, however, decided to start introducing it to the public through tourism packages, such as exploring the park with other conservation organizations. “We have collaborated with travel agencies to introduce KBS, not only for domestic tourists but also foreign tourists,” he said on Monday, May 22, 2023.
Khoirul explained that the number of visitors will be limited to 25 people per group, with a limited visit time of 45-60 minutes. Thus, visitors are required to make a registration.
“[Visitors] can choose hours and dates provided. There are tour packages, dinner, games, and others,” he said.
The price of the night tour package ranges from Rp100,000 to Rp150,000 for the opening trial period. “Later, the Surabaya Night Zoo will only open every Saturday and Sunday, instead of every day,” Khoirul added.
Surabaya Mayor Eri Cahyadi appreciated the zoo management’s step in presenting the Surabaya Night Zoo. “This really shows out-of-the-box innovation,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Surabaya Legislative Council (DPRD) member Zuhrotul Mar'ah gave several notes, including those related to security in the area and the presence of at least two companions or guides.
“One person is in charge of giving information about the nocturnal animals and another person is on guard behind the visitors. This is to anticipate visitors from getting separated from the entourage,” Zuhrotul talked of security measures for visitors of Surabaya Night Zoo.
