Buleleng, Bali Hit by M4.4 Earthquake

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) announced a magnitude 4.4 earthquake that had hit 20 kilometers southeast of Buleleng caused a shock across nearly every area in Bali.
According to the agency’s data, the quake struck Buleleng at 00:41 Indonesia Western Time (WIB) and was classified as a surface quake with a shallow hypocenter at 10 kilometers.
"The earthquake was triggered by active fault activity of the shear mechanism on the mainland (Buleleng), and was not triggered by a back-arc thrusting fault," said the Head of the BMKG Earthquake and Tsunami Center, Daryono.
The strength of the earthquake in Buleleng was recorded at IV on the MMI scale while people residing in Denpasar felt it at II on the MMI scale. This quake occurred almost 48 hours after a stronger quake was felt in Palu and Poso, Central Sulawesi.
