AGO Arrests New Suspect in Kominfo BTS Project Corruption Case

23 May 2023 17:14 WIB

TEMPO.CO, JakartaThe Attorney General's Office (AGO) has named a new suspect from a private party in the BTS project corruption case at the Communication and Information Ministry.

“Based on the facts and evidence obtained, the investigation team has named witness WP a suspect,” said Head of the AGO's Center for Law Information Ketut Sumedana, on Tuesday, May 23, 2023.

Ketut explained that WP was allegedly a trusted person for PT Solitech Media Sinergy Commissioner, Irwan Hermawan, who had previously been named a suspect in this case. According to him, WP was suspected of being a liaison between the parties involved in the crime.

WP, said Ketut, was arrested at the Immigration Office of Yogyakarta Adisutjipto Airport on Monday, May 22, 2023, at 11:00 WIB. The AGO launched the arrest in tandem with a team from the Yogyakarta High Court and the Kulon Progo District Attorney's Office.

WP was then taken to the Junior Attorney General's Office for Special Crimes in Jakarta. After being examined, WP was immediately named a suspect. The AGO also immediately detained WP for the first 20 days from May 23, 2023, to June 11, 2023. The detention was carried out at the AGO’s Detention Center in Salemba.

WP is the seventh person named by the AGO as a suspect in the corruption case of Kominfo’s BTS project and supporting infrastructure packages 1-5 for 2020-2022. The AGO had named six suspects including Kominfo Minister Johnny G. Plate on May 17, 2023.
