TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The government of Boyolali Regency, Central Java, is building a new religious tourism area as a means of education about hajj and umrah pilgrimages.
Boyolali Regent M Said Hidayat, said that the construction had been underway since 2021. "In the religious tourism area, there will be several constructions depicting a series of pilgrimages," Hidayat explained.
The three-hectare tourist area stands on the land of the former Singkil Animal Market. Hidayat claimed that the construction has been running smoothly and has reached 35 percent completion. "Hopefully, everything can be finished by the end of September," Hidayat added.
Yovi Hardianto, an official of the Boyolali Public Works and Spatial Planning Agency, explained that the religious tourism area will be equipped with a miniature of the Kaaba, a replica of the Sai area, a replica of the Nabawi Mosque, Padang Arafah, Jabal Rahmah, and others.
“In this area, several buildings depict a series of pilgrimages in both Mecca and Medina, so that they can later be used for pilgrimage processions,” Yovi said.
In 2021, the construction commenced with a budget of Rp925 million for land management. Then in 2022, the Boyolali government allocated a budget of Rp2.8 billion for the construction of a replica of the Sai area. “This year, the Boyolali government allocated approximately Rp21 billion, which consists of five packages,” said Yovi.
The five packages include the construction of a miniature Kaaba building worth Rp3.2 billion, the construction of an auditorium building and the Nabawi Mosque worth Rp3.6 billion, the construction of kiosks worth Rp5.7 billion, the construction of supporting facilities or ticketing areas worth Rp2.3 billion, and construction of other supporting infrastructures worth Rp6 billion.
After the construction finishes, the religious tourism area will be opened to the public. “To learn about how to perform both hajj and umrah,” the Boyolali Regent said.
