Lebaran Betawi 2023 Festival Starts Today; People Flock Monas Area

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta’s Lebaran Betawi 2023 festival started today, Saturday, May 20, at the National Monument or Monas area. Various attractions of Betawi cultures were presented at the event. The people enthusiastically welcomed the event.
When Tempo arrived at Monas, Gambang Kromong performance was being played. Most of the viewers sat at the available seats and some of them crowded surrounding the location of the attraction.
Weni, one of the visitors, told Tempo that she enjoyed the performance typical of Betawi culture. She said that nowadays, Gambang Kromong performances are rare. “[I] come here with my children and grandchildren. Glad to see such a performance (gambang kromong), it’s now rare,” she said.
Meanwhile, Lebaran Betawi committee chair, Beky Mardani, said the people’s enthusiasm were high in welcoming this event.
He was thankful that the Lebaran Betawi festival could return after three years of hiatus due to the Covid-19 pandemic. “Alhamdulillah, Lebaran Betawi can now return after it was halted during the pandemic. Today is like the preparation for the peak event tomorrow,” he said when met at Monas today, May 20.
Beky invited the people to come to Lebaran Betawi 2023 festival at Monas which would be held until tomorrow, Sunday, May 20. Everyone can come to the event for free and without any requirements.
