South Jakarta to Install New System of Vertical Drainage to Anticipate Flood

12 May 2023 12:55 WIB

TEMPO.CO, JakartaSouth Jakarta Water Resources Agency planned to build 200 vertical drainage. The agency head Santo said the program is part of efforts to anticipate flood and inundation.

“This new model of vertical drainage is used to maximize the handling of floods and inundation,” Santo said in his official statement, Thursday, May 11, 2023.

According to him, the current vertical drainage will be made with a depth of around 20-25 meters per unit. “The construction of this new size of vertical drainage has started and will be carried out throughout 2023,” he added.

The construction has been underway, one of which is in Kebayoran Lama. Iwan K Santoso, head of the Kebayoran Lama sub-district, said that vertical drainage is being built at eight points on Jalan Ciledug Raya, or precisely at the Cipulir Seskoal intersection.

The construction project takes about three weeks. The next targeted locations will be the Permata Suite area of North Grogol and around Gandaria City in the Kebayoran Lama Utara district.

“The vertical drainage construction is not conducted on the road so it doesn't interfere with the traffic flow or other road users,” Iwan explained. He hoped that using the new system will help to accelerate water absorption into the ground.
