Police Bust Iranian Drug Smuggling Ring Involving 264kg Liquid Meth

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A joint team from the drug directorate of the National Police Criminal Investigation Agency (Bareskrim) and the drugs directorate of the Jambi and Banten Regional Police uncovered the smuggling of 264.73 kilograms of liquid methamphetamine by an Iranian drug network.
This was discovered following the arrest of an Iranian citizen, NB, 33 years old, at Tinjil Port, Pandeglang, Banten Province.
Brigadier General Mukti Juharsa, director of the National Police Drug Directorate, claimed that the method of sending liquid meth to be crystalized in Indonesia was relatively new.
He explained that the police confiscated five jerry cans disguised as gasoline. However, after being tested by the lab, the jerry cans contain 264.73 kg of liquid meth.
“If this is crystallized or processed, it will be 750 kilograms of crystal meth,” Mukti said in a press conference at the National Police's Criminal Investigation Unit, on Thursday, May 11, 2023.
The perpetrators smuggled the illegal drug by mixing it with gasoline to deceive officers. The police also seized a white Yamaha speedboat, a fishing boat, a black bag, two Samsung cellphones, a Nokia cellphone, a satellite cell phone, a power bank, a GPS, a flashlight, and one ATM card.
The suspects violated Article 114 paragraph 2 in conjunction with Article 132 paragraph 2 of Law No. 35 of 2009 concerning Narcotics and could face life imprisonment or a minimum of six years in prison and a maximum of 20 years in prison with a fine of Rp1 billion.
