TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - State-owned airport operator Angkasa Pura I (AP I) which oversees the West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) International Lombok Airport stated that the presence of buffaloes grazed by local residents within the airport's restricted areas will potentially disrupt flight operations and safety.
"Buffaloes that are grazed in the airport area have the potential to disrupt flight operations," said Angkasa Pura I Lombok Airport spokesperson Arif Hariyanto, in Praya, Thursday, May 11, Antara reported.
In addition to disrupting flight activities, the feces produced by the buffaloes hamper the airport’s main cargo access road. AP I together with a joint effort with military, police, and public order agency personnel have cracked down on buffalo herding within airport areas.
"Buffalo herding activities in the airport area were disciplined as it is disruptive to flight operations," said the spokesperson.
Angkasa Pura I appealed to the public, especially livestock owners, to no longer carry out animal herding activities in the restricted area of the airport.
