KPK Arrests Contractor in Bengkalis Highway Project Corruption

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has arrested the commissioner of contractor firm PT Rimbo Peraduan Suryadi Halim as a suspect of corruption linked to the multi-year construction of a national highway project in the Bengkalis Regency.
According to the agency, the suspect initially committed the crime to win the project from 2013 to 2015. The Duri Bengkalis Eastern outer ring road was the highway that spent Rp203.9 billion from the local regional budget.
“Investigators have arrested [Suryadi Halim] for the first 20 days from May 10 to May 29 for further investigation at the KPK jail,” said the antigraft agency’s acting deputy of prosecution Asep Guntur Rahayu on May 10.
Prior to this suspect naming, KPK named 10 suspects of alleged corruption in the multi-year construction project, one of which was M. Nasir who assumed the position of Bengkalis Regency’s public work service head.
