TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Head of Jakarta Transportation Agency Syafrin Liputo said the congestion level in the capital is increasing. He referred to data from the TomTom Traffic Index for February 2023 that the city’s traffic jams skyrocketed from 34 percent to 53 percent.
“Our [traffic congestion] ranking has now gone up to 29 from previously 46,” Syafrin said when met at the Jakarta City Hall, Wednesday, May 10, 2023.
He said the provincial government is concerned about the spike in traffic jams. Acting Governor Heru Budi Hartono urged city officials to hold a full discussion and accommodate suggestions and solutions from various parties. “That will be discussed on May 17 tomorrow,” he said.
In addition, Heru will also seek advice and input from members of the Jakarta City Transportation Council (DTKJ) for handling Jakarta's traffic jams.
“Of course, they are expected to become agents of change for Jakarta to communicate with the public regarding various efforts to be made,” said Syafrin.
