Heavy Rain Inundates West Aceh Under Widespread Flooding

8 May 2023 11:21 WIB

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Eight sub-regencies in the West Aceh Regency are reportedly inundated under floodwater that is reportedly measured to reach 1 meter deep in certain areas. The West Aceh Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) said on Sunday that constant heavy rainfall for three days prior was the cause of it.

“The flood was caused by heavy rainfall for three consecutive days,” said West Aceh BPBD coordinator Mashuri on May 7.

According to him, the floods that occurred in West Aceh Regency occurred due to the overflowing of a number of large rivers in this area such as the Woyla River (Krueng) and Krueng Meureubo, inundating residential areas.

Villages that were flooded included Lancong, Tungkop, Kajeung, Tanoh Mirah, Gleng, Gampong Gaseu, Ramitie Village, and Sungai Mas Subdistrict. The amount of people affected by the flood remains unknown.

The flood also submerged Gampong Seumantok, Gampong Alue Keumang, and Gampong Lawet, Pante Ceureumen Subdistrict. In West Woyla Sub-district, floods hit Gampong Napai, Gampong Blang Luah, Gampong Alue Leuhop.
