BMKG Detects Cyclone Seeds in Latest Weather Forecast

8 May 2023 08:37 WIB

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The meteorology, climatology, and geophysics agency (BMKG) on Monday continues to observe the 93W tropical cyclone seed building up over the Western hemisphere of the Philippine Sea, which the agency believes will not create indirect weather effects on Indonesian regions.

The cyclone seed is currently slowly moving West-Northwest and in its slightest will create potential rain clouds and worsen the intensity of the waves in the vicinity of the cyclone seed.

The agency is also looking closely at the cyclonic circulation over the Eastern area of the Philippines pacific ocean and over Maluku, which is said to have created an elongated convergence zone starting from the Bone Strait up to Sulawesi Sea, the Northern part of West Papua, and the Arafura Sea up to the Flores Sea.

Other areas of convergence were observed to extend over West Sumatra, from East Java to Central Java, in the Java Sea, from the Makassar Strait to South Kalimantan, in northern Kalimantan, in the Natuna Sea, and in Papua.

Rain and Temperature Forecast Across Indonesian Cities

Rain accompanied by thunder is expected in Banjarmasin, Samarinda, Tarakan, and Ambon. Moderate-intensity rain is likely in Serang, Padang, and Medan. Light rain occurs, among others, in Banda Aceh, Bengkulu, Central Jakarta, Gorontalo, Jambi, and Bandung.

The air temperature will range from 20-34 degrees Celsius. The lowest temperature will be in Bandung and the highest in Semarang and Banjarmasin.

BMKG also issued high wave warnings potentially occurring in several areas of Indonesian waters today. Very high increases in the 4.0 - 6.0 meters range are likely to occur in waters north of Sabang, waters west of Aceh - Nias, and the Indian Ocean west of Aceh.
