TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Secretary General of the Indonesian Hotel and Restaurant Association (PHRI) Maulana Yusran, predicted that there will be an increase in hotel rooms occupancy rate on D+1 and D+2 of Eid Al-Fitr. 'Yesterday [during Eid] people are busy with visiting families and relatives," Maulana said to Tempo on Sunday, April 23, 2023.
According to Maulana, Sunday and Monday will be the peak of the hotel occupancy rates. Maulana added that high occupancy rates will be apparent in areas with attractive tourism spots.
He stated that currently, the reservation rate for April 23 and April 24, 2023, is considerably high. "It's quite fantastic, probably 30% increase," Maulana said.
The number does not include an online reservation or reservations made through third-party application. "The increase hopefully can occur until April 25, 2023," Maulana said.
In general, PHRI hoped that the hotel occupancy rate can increase by 80% during the 2023 Eid period. However, Maulana said that PHRI had not made a comparison to previous numbers recorded last year.
"We have not predicted the increase [compared to last year]. Because from what it seems, an increase is certain, but we will only calculate the Eid moments," Maulana said.
The hotel industry is one of the six sectors with a great performance during Ramadan and Eid Al-Fitr. The statement was made by the Director of Economic and Law Studies (Celios) Bhima Yudhistira.
'The business sector that will grow is transportation, retail, food and beverages, rest area, shirts, and hotels," Bhima said.
He asserted that household consumption can grow by 5.5% in the second quarter of 2023. Consequently, Bhima said that household consumption during Eid Al-Fitr will certainly boost the economy for the whole year.
Growth in the second quarter, which comes simultaneously with Eid Al-Fitr, is predicted to be around 5 to 5.5% Year-on-Year (YoY). The portion of household consumption is relatively high at 55 to 57% of the total GDP.
"If we analyze it, during Eid Al-Fitr around 20 to 40% of the upper economy experienced an increase in shopping preference. Many households prepare consumption two to three months before Eid Al-Fitr," Bhima said.
Maulana hoped that this year's Eid Al-Fitr can be a turning point to recover from the pressure caused by Covid-19 over the last three years. Maulana asserted that many micro, small and medium enterprises in many regions are waiting for the positive effects of Eid Al-Fitr.
