TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian President Joko Widodo or Jokowi, accompanied by Football Association of Indonesia (PSSI) chair Erick Thohir, met with Indonesia U-20 players at Gelora Bung Karno (GBK) stadium, Jakarta, on Saturday afternoon, April 1.
Jokowi arrived at GBK at 15:30, accompanied by PSSI chairman Erick Thohir, PSSI 1st deputy Zainudin Amali, and National Police Chief Listyo Sigit Prabowo.
The President entered the football field arena and talked with national team coach Shin Tae Yong. Jokowi shook hands with the national U-20 team players and gave them directions.
Previously on Friday, Erick Thohir said that the U-20 team would meet with Jokowi following Indonesia's cancellation as the host of the U-20 World Cup 2023.
With the cancellation, the Garuda Team also cannot enroll in the game this year.
The International Association of Football Federation, or FIFA, removed Indonesia as the host of the U-20 World Cup 2023 on Wednesday, following the meeting between FIFA president Gianni Infantino and PSSI chairman Erick Thohir.
Previously, there were rejections from several parties including regional heads against Israel National Team to join the U-20 World Cup 2023.
The repeal of the host status automatically removes Indonesia from competing in the sporting event because it failed to obtain a ticket via the regular qualifying route after not being able to reach the top four of the 2023 U-20 Asian Cup.
